I’m so glad we went back to Taiwan together last year with my parents.

This Wednesday, November 4, will be Dragon’s birthday. It’s going to be a really hard day for us, thinking back to Dragon’s past birthdays, thinking of all the future birthdays we won’t get to share with our son.  Wondering about the man Dragon would have become. What would he have studied in college?  What career choices would he have made?  Where would he have made a difference?  What would he have done for fun?

When Daniel and I established the Dragon Kim Foundation, we did so to support kids to find and pursue their passions, to help other children lead the amazing lives that Dragon and Justin did not get to lead.  But I think that message goes for all of us, children and adults alike.  Many people have shared with us that since this accident, they’ve learned to prioritize what’s important.

So here’s my challenge to you: find time this week to pursue your passion.  Do you love to travel, and is there some place in the world that you have always wanted to go?  Then stop putting it off and take an hour to plan that trip, because you never know what next year will bring. Did you once dream of being a writer?  A violinist?  A photographer?  Then schedule one hour some time this week to write, to play the violin, to take pictures.  I mean it… take out your datebook or pull up Outlook and make a date with yourself that you cannot cancel.  Or better yet, find a way to incorporate that passion meaningfully into your life.  Because, as Dragon believed, life is fleeting, and it’s our obligation while we have time here on earth to Live Life.

And please share a comment with us about how you’ve chosen this week to Live Life!

Live Life
by Dragon Kim

Life is a gift, so live it to the fullest,
grow happy and gaily, for you only have one shot.
Life is beautiful, so open your eyes,
let the light from the world shine in your face.
Life is what you make it, so make it amazing,
don’t live in the shadows of the world.
Life is a game, so play to your hearts content,
don’t hold anything back.
Life is limitless, so shoot past the stars,
don’t let the weight of the world bring you down.
Life is precious, so don’t waste it,
live it to the fullest.
Life is given, so give to those who need it,
and in return, other will give to you.
Life is fleeting, so don’t chase it,
run with it.
Life is gone, but don’t cry,
for you were just visiting.
