We’ve Launched Our Full Beginning Band and Orchestra!

This Fall, 2016, we launched the Music Program at OCSA.  Over 60 elementary school children from the Santa Ana community, as well as 30+ OCSA high school students assisting the program, showed up for our first class.

Instructors Jeffrey de Seriere and Peter Kwon opened the class with talented OCSA students demonstrating their instruments to the elementary school kids.  After their inspiring performances, our OCSA students and teachers manned an “Instrument Petting Zoo.” The room filled with a festival-like atmosphere as our new Santa Ana students went from station to station, where each child got a chance to hold the instruments, play them, and ask questions about the various instruments before making their wish list for which instrument they would like to play.  Many children had never before seen a clarinet, held a viola, or heard a cello.  It was a thrill to see the joy in their faces.

Thank you to all our donors who helped made this day possible.

Together, we did it!

We asked for your help to bring Dragon’s vision of a free music instruction class to life, and you gave.  You gave time, money, and your hearts. You gave over 70 instruments! We asked for your help to bring Dragon’s vision of a free music instruction class to life, and you gave.  You gave time, money, and your hearts. You gave over 70 instruments! You gave family-treasured trumpets, professional-quality flutes, and brand new, top-of-the-line clarinets.  You gave little ukeleles and big cellos. With the help of your generous giving, especially during our first Annual Benefit Concert, we are now launching a full beginning band and orchestra this Fall!  We will put these used and new instruments into the hands of eager children, most of whom have never learned how to play an instrument before.

Through our partnership with the Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA) and with the leadership of Teren Shaffer, Dean of Arts Conservatories, and instructor Jeffrey de Seriere, The Dragon Kim Foundation will be sponsoring a full school year of free two hour music instruction lessons.  These lessons will take place every Friday afternoon for a 60-student class of elementary school students from Santa Ana.  Our classes will be taught by talented OCSA faculty with the assistance of some outstanding OCSA students.

Thank you, friends, for helping us make Dragon’s dream come true.

We want to give special thanks to our community partners, The Allergan Foundation and The Wells Fargo Foundation, for their generous grants that have helped make this possible.
